Prof. Dr. med. Gustav Steinhoff
Gustav Steinhoff has been known as an expert in the field of stem cell therapies for many years. Worldwide he was one of the first clinicians who treated patients successfully with intra-myocardial transplantation of autologous stem cells. Thus he is one of the pioneers of these new therapies.
After his medical study at the Erasmus University Rotterdam Gustav Steinhoff conducted his research at Baylor College in Houston, Texas. He completed his thesis in 1986 and worked at the University of Kiel and the Medical School Hanover where he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery in 1998. In 1999 he became leader of the Department of General, Cardiac-, Vascular- and Abdominal-Surgery at the Oststadt-Hospital Hanover. In 2000 he moved to the University of Rostock as a director and chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery. There he continued his research on cardiac stem cell therapies. In 2003 he founded the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy, IRMED e.V. The Advanced Therapies Partners has been launched in 2006 by Gustav Steinhoff together with Dr. Tiedemann.
Gustav Steinhoff is head of the Reference- and Translation Center for Cardiac Stem Cell Therapy in Rostock, which has been founded in 2008. |
